Cory Gibbs

If a star player, who is on the threshold of his retirement, got injured and could not recover even after his repeated attempts, what is the best option left for him? A proud retirement! Yes, this is what is done by Chicago Fire’s defender Cory Gibbs who has attained the age of 32 years and torn his meniscus in a practice session last year on April 4, it was initially taken as one of his routine injuries, coz he suffered many injuries throughout his career, but later, when he undergone through a surgery six days later, it became skeptical for the starlet to return back on the field. That injury ousted him from rest of the last season, and in current season too, he could not play coz of the same injury, so at last; he decided to put a dot on his twelve-year career with proud and dignity. It was also his doctor’s advice to get retired from professional football for his own sake.

Regardless of his much regards among US national team’s players, he could not prolong his career to the peak, perhaps, it is not wrong to say that his injuries let him down, and deposit his brilliant form, he could only play nineteen matches for US national team. In league levels, he has been associated with Fire since last two seasons, but earlier, he has played in English Premier League, Dutch Eredivisie along with German Bundesliga. Moreover, as he said over a telephonic interview, he is keen to serve Fire as a member of its operational department, but none has been committed by the Fire yet.

Anyways, after his retirement, he said, “It was a tough decision. After discussing it with the medical staff, my wife and family, it is the right time for me to step away from the playing field. I’ve done everything in my power to return to the game, however, my latest injury has made it too difficult to play again. It was an honor to represent the United States and the Fire, along with all of the clubs I played with throughout my career. I would also like to thank all of my teammates, coaches, the fans and my family, especially my wife, for all of their support along this journey. I am truly excited to transition into a new venture in my career. Coaching, working for a club and scouting are my greatest desires. I will be as committed off the pitch as when I was playing.”
