Amid the exaggeration and curiosity about upcoming Brazilian world cup, CONCACAF Women’s Championship 2014 is back in the news for its new host US. The event which is commonly referred as the last qualifying tourney for the Women World Cup is to be held this autumn. Though, for its world cup qualification, winner is not as important as top three teams are coz they would directly qualify for the 2015 World Cup in Canada while fourth placeholder would have to fight in last playoff with a South American nation. Since, this tourney is being organized by CONCACAF, more than 31 nations showed their interest in fighting for the world cup but only last eight teams would qualify for the Championship and this qualification process is scheduled to be started later this month. Actually, women soccer could never get a dominating representation in world soccer coz of the basic mentality that this is primarily a men sports and that is why every time a FIFA world cup is nearby, every other news gets shell off especially if it belongs to women soccer, but thankfully, this time this is not the situation as US have shown their eagerness to organize world cup qualifying Women’s Championship 2014.
The exact details of the matches are not yet announced by the governing body though they promised to do so very soon. Actually, COONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb has even been a well-wisher of soccer as a whole like his global mentor – FIFA president – and that is why he is more than happy to see so many teams have come forward with their interest to impart in this Championship. Calling it a great success, FIFA Vice President said, “Given our region’s historically outstanding results in women’s competition, CONCACAF is proud to call itself the world’s home of women’s football. The number of teams set to participate in our regional qualification process demonstrates the growth of the women’s game across the Confederation – especially in the Caribbean and Central America.”
He did not forget to thank women world cup host Canada for its war like preparation at a time when men world cup preparations are being criticized for repeated delays, He added, “We know Canada is prepared to put on a great show, both later this year for the FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup and next year for the World Cup. Taking into account also the successful FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup recently completed Costa Rica, there’s no doubt that CONCACAF has earned the title of ‘Women’s World Cup Central.”
