Top soccer officials are known for their exaggerated media statements; perhaps most of the times, this is also a part of their game plan where they try to influence other teams by one mean or another, but United’s newly appointed manager seems to be moving far away from the footprints of his former legendry Sir Alex Ferguson who was known to demoralize any opponent by his intelligently spoken media statements. Moyes unexpectedly says that he doesn’t think his team has enough talent to triumph Europe this year, which means, he is also not optimistic for defending their league title. The statement came after their three initial defeats out of first six played league matches that threw them out of the top five spots. The most feasible reason for his shacking confidence could be his failure to sign some of his summer targets; perhaps he could not be successful on most of the occasions and many believe since he lacks negotiation skills he failed so many times in the last transfer window. Anyway, at the moment he is unsure if they can conquer the Europe and reason he tells is the lack of world class players in the team.
Though, United shown an impressive performance in the debut match against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month but could not sustain what they promised earlier. Actually, Championship has never been United’s cup of tea that is why they were ousted in the group stage itself last year under Ferguson’s regime. Moyes explains his chances this year, “To win the Champions League, you need five or six world-class players.
“Look at Bayern Munich, they have it. Look at Barcelona, who had it in the past and Real Madrid, who have maybe got it now. That’s the level you have to be at to win it. We’ve not got that yet but what we have got is experience. Disappointing performance, disappointing result. We never really got up to speed. We had a few chances, but West Brom held their shape and defended well. They always looked a threat on the break, in the first half especially and even more so in the second half.
“We missed that spark and West Brom deserved it no question. I can’t argue with that.”
United has ever been a power performer in every league they played; this year too they can reverse any odd; you just wait and watch!
