De Jong is out for rest of the season

December 11, 2012 by 888Scoreonline

Nigel De Jong

Some injuries are worse than what they seem apparently, and exactly this is what happened to Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong who broke Achilles tendon of his left leg during his club AC Milan’s recent 4-2 victory over Torino. He could not even play the whole match and sidelined right after one goal. Initially, it was not serious, but later when detailed examination was done; it was found how he snapped his Achilles tendon. Expectedly, he would not be available for the Rossoneri for the whole remaining season. The former Manchester City midfielder, who joined AC Milan last summer at £3.5m price tag, has already been a vital strength of Allegri’s midfield. In current scenario, it would be a big blow for Allegri to miss him for an entire season. So, he becomes like a star that suddenly appeared for Milan and quickly disappeared too. However, at the moment, everybody is hoping of him to recover even earlier which looks very unlikely at the moment.

Milan club vice president Adriano Galliani confirmed about his injury via a statement that reads as, “De Jong’s Tendine has snapped and that means the season is over for him. It’s a big loss for the team and takes the shine off the win.” Similarly, Massimiliano Allegri, Milan’s Coach, also said to a channel after the game: “The lads have dedicated the victory to Nigel, who unfortunately has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury that will see him out for the season.”

Milan current position in Serie A leaderboard is not very impressive, so Allegri has already prepared a backup plan to maintain his midfield, i.e., there is a rumor that he is looking for another player as his substitute during January transfer window. Club president Silvio Berlusconi has also accepted that they are looking for a suitable replacement for the star midfielder whom they can use in coming transfer window. He said, “We are disappointed and it really is a shame for De Jong. We are looking at out options to enter the market, if it is needed.” Despite his reasonable performances this season where he could only play 12 matches and scored only one goal, he was the important contributor of recent Milan’s successes, so Allegri would definitely be looking for a player who could surge their position in Serie A. Let’s see who is packing his bags for San Siro!
