It is not always easy for any player to settle down in new atmosphere especially in England where expectations are over sky high, and if you are associated with an underperforming side, it becomes even three fold difficult for you to satisfy your boss in the first season itself. Former Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa is one such player who has until been facing lots of problems to settle down himself in England coupled with manager Mourinho statement that he may not be the best option at the forward line for Blues. Even few media houses pressed recently that he could be sent back to Spain after not having a dream start of the league season but after Chelsea’s Porto win, everything seems to have been changed at Stamford Bridge. Now, second term serving North Londoners boss is praising Costa and offering his assurance that he would complete his three-year contract in England. However, former Everton boss still believes Costa cannot match the legacy of Didier Drogba who played for them nine long years in two spells.
Before Porto game, Costa was very much biased for his return back to Vicente Calderón, he even said clearly when asked about a possible move back to Madrid side, “You never know — look where Filipe Luis is now. Life takes plenty of twists and turns — I always wish Atletico the best and I always follow them, support them from afar.”
On the other side, cooling down the tension between him and Costa, Mourinho denies of having any rift between them, perhaps, he now sees lots of potentials in the 27-year-old to contribute better for the Stamford Bridge side. He also talked about rumors of him getting back to Spain and if he can match the Drogba, Mourinho said, “He (Diego Costa) didn’t say. He said that in football you never know. Filipe Luis was one example, but he could also say Fernando Torres.
“Atletico is a great club, Madrid is a great city, La Liga is a very good league, so why not a player 28 years old not to think that in football it’s possible to be back? I don’t see a problem. Drogba (on comparing Costa with that of Drogba) was here for 10 years. I don’t see Diego playing until he’s 38! He’s happy here, he likes to be here.
“He’s another one that has three years on his contract. I see him staying at Chelsea for three more years, no problem.”
