These days it is not easy to do anything against the rules book, especially after media’s active coverage of anything suspected in the field of soccer. We have seen how media exaggeratedly highlighted the Qatar issue and then whole world came to know what went wrong with infamous bidding process that allowed a hot State to host the biggest soccer event that too during summer. Though, investigations are still one about the 2022 world cup bidding process, a new revelation made by English news daily The Sunday Times specifically accused not only Arab nation but England and Russia as well for not following the correct procedure to win the world cup hosting rights for 2018 and 2022 FIFA events. The news published by Culture, Media and Sport revealed how Russia and Qatar organizers were engaged in vote trading during the bidding process and convincingly won the hosting rights while whole world was against of their entitlement for holding such a big event.
Expectedly, all the three associations have denied of doing anything wrong in the process and ask everyone to read the FIFA’s ethics committee report that has cleared them off any wrongdoing in the world cup bidding. Although, Sunday Times did not provide any evidence in support of their claim but they said it looks apparent that FIFA is a passing through a serious problem of corruption and unfortunately it started from the top. What they said in their report is, “Today we have published the latest evidence have given to us, which does suggest that the themselves compiled a very substantial amount of information suggesting corrupt practices in the process. also suggesting that England was involved in some kind of collusion as well during that process. These are questions that need to be answered.
“What it is alleged England have been doing is mild compared to the allegations made against some of the other nations but nevertheless it is obviously serious, it is a breach of the rules, and therefore we will want to know whether or not it is true and how the FA justify it. When we last spoke to the FA we asked whether or not they had any further evidence of corrupt practices and they said they didn’t. So that in itself is worrying because it now appears that they were sitting on this dossier which contains substantial evidence.”
Although, no reaction has until come from any notable about the authenticity of their claim, it is highly unlikely that any big name would come forward since there have been many such names who are already in the suspected list of wrongdoers. Let’s wait for few more days for any response over this exposure from soccer fraternity.
