In a strange quote referring FIFA President Sepp Blatter has said England football is being run by idiots has spread havoc in soccer community. The quote is written in an autobiography by Sebastian Coe who is a well-known personality in soccer, perhaps he is one who ran London Olympics and was the chairman of FIFA’s ethics committee. His latest job was a part of English think tank for its failed bid to host 2018 FIFA world cup. According to him, Blatter has always been a problem in dealing with English officials, perhaps, he once said that English soccer is not being run by bright peoples; peoples who run it are idiots. Notably, Russia won the hosting rights for 2018 world cup, and during voting, England got only two votes. Even Coe feels that Blatter too was in favor of Russia for 2018 world cup. His favor to Russia seems very much unbelievable, but it is true, coz he doesn’t like the way English football functions especially at the top level.
Coe describes Blatter’s biased opinion for Russia as, “He doesn’t. He’s Swiss and like a lot of Swiss, he’s rather fond of England,” Coe said. “He likes the political stability, he likes the pomp and tradition. What he always has a problem with is the English game. And from his perspective, it is not hard to understand. As president of the international federation he sees the unwillingness of English clubs to release players for international duty. He sees the purchasing power of the English game – big-name clubs buying up players from all over the world.”
Blatter also cited why England officials were not so keen to host the world cup – coz of its top notch club’s pressure. He said; these clubs are not willing to release their top soccer stars for an international event. Since, these clubs have much grip on English soccer think tanks, they did not try that hard to gain the world cup’s hosting rights. Actually, this is all about money power these clubs have to rule the soccer fraternity in England.
Due to this structure in England, Blatter is unhappy with its functioning where officials are biased towards clubs rather a global event like world cup. Coe written in his book, “As president of the international federation he sees the unwillingness of English clubs to release players for international duty. He sees the purchasing power of the English game – big-name clubs buying up players from all over the world. And he sees a national federation that, at the time of the bid, had no chairman and no chief executive.”
