FA urges to host EURO 2020 inaugural match

February 15, 2014 by 888Scoreonline

English football association is known for proving its dominance over world soccer; in fact, in every European soccer tourney they try to present themselves as one of the finest hosts in the business. They proved it again when they promoted Wembley as the host of inaugural match for Euro 2020. The high profile mega soccer event will celebrate its 60th year in 2020 hence UEFA wants to make it even more memorable by hosting its matches across multiple European Cities rather restricted to just one State. However, at the moment, Istanbul is likely to win the hosting rights of important games including both semis and final, but after English interest, final decision rests with the European soccer watchdog. The proposal made by English FA is not surprising altogether as they have successfully hosted the final of last championship league therefore they can base their claim with professionalism and world class infrastructure they have inside the venue. Further, ground staff and security arrangements are also unparalleled. As far its geographical location is concerned, it is almost at the center so every team should be comfortable with it. It is unclear whether FA just wants to host the opening game or they are also interested in hosting finals of the event.

Alex Horne, general secretary, said about their proposal, “On the basis that someone needs to stand up, we have done it. It’s a big game, the opening game. It would be great for London, for Wembley. I pushed it to UEFA, quietly at the moment, but we are going to make a play for it with our bid.”

Since, the event is too far at this stage, there is no need to hurry about who will host which match as everyone is busy with Brazilian world cup which is apparently going to be the biggest soccer extravaganza till date. Talking about who will lead English side in EURO 2016, Horne affirmed that Roy Hodgson would surely be with them during France visit, he added, “For me personally, Roy is our manager to France and I’m happy with that, very happy with that. I think he’s been brilliant. He’s exactly what we hoped for. We go optimistic that we are going to enjoy it and play well.”

No one from UEFA has said anything about FA’s drive to win the opening game hosting rights, however, as per some insiders, there are chances that dominance of English think tank would win the high profile event’s inaugural match rights, however, final verdict will only come from UEFA den at a right time.
