Amid one delay after another and widespread dissent among the civilians, Brazil world up is going to witness one of the biggest protests in recent era and we have seen an example in just concluded Confederation cup where thousands of protesters gathered around match venues and hooted against the fifa event. Though, world governing body tried hard to calm down them, it even promised to share a part of profit and asked local football association to use this share for improving infrastructure facilities in this South American nation, but protesters are broadly opposing the billions of dollar expenditure at the cost of their day to day needy things. Actually, whole controversy started when local government imposed an additional tax citing world cup expenditure while they earlier promised not to share the burden over common peoples and then whole anti world cup community came together to oppose the biggest soccer event in Brazil after many decades.
If this was not enough, continuous delays to world cup venues also fueled the whole protest coz each delay means an increased budget which would again cost general public more harshly. In fact, some deaths over venue sites also incensed the peoples, coz several social agencies revealed that sub-contractors are not providing enough safety measures for labors working on the match venues. Now, when protesters have threatened that they will intensify the protest even more in upcoming global soccer event, FIFA has appealed them not to oppose but to enjoy the most popular soccer event. Pleasing to all the dissenting peoples, Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke, said, “It is a right to demonstrate. For them, it’s the best time. For me, it’s the wrong time.
“(This is) the wrong time because it is a time where Brazil should enjoy a unique time, a time they have not enjoyed since 1950. A time where they have a national team who won the Confederations Cup – a team that is the potential winner of the World Cup 2014. So there should be support from all Brazil for the organisation of the World Cup.
“We are not asking to support Fifa, we are asking to support the World Cup. We are asking to support an event they won five times already and they dream to win for the first time at home.”
Protesters still believe that around 8 billion of investment was wasted in organizing a sport’s event while schools, roads, education, and basic infrastructure are still there where they were fifty years back.
