Exaggerations for the next year’s Brazil tourney are on the peak after FIFA announced October edition of World Rankings. This month, these rankings are worth watchable coz they will decide how the seeds will be decided for the upcoming world cup. Accordingly, top seven ranked teams will join Brazil in Pot 1 on December 6 when World Cup draw is taken place. Looking at the top seven teams of October, anyone can be amazed not to see Italy in the list, apart from them, Netherlands is also not in the list; however, if Uruguay does not qualify for the FIFA event, Clockwork Orange will replace them. Otherwise, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Uruguay, and Switzerland will be in the Pot1. One surprising name in the current list is Switzerland which has gained a seven place jump from its fourteenth spot last month after their magnificent show against Slovenia and Albania which also shunned Italian chances indirectly. These rankings could further change before WC seeds coz FIFA will again revise this list on November 28, by then, playoff ties would have also been completed.
Again, only the pot 1 has been seeded with these ranking while remaining pools will completely be on a geographical basis to ensure proper symmetry in each group. For UEFA teams with lowest ranks, there would be a separate pot where they would have to meet a non-European team from seeded pot. Among all the teams in current rankings, France is probably the most unfortunate who missed the seed by just one point; hence, as expected, French Football Association is criticizing the whole seeding system. FFF president Noel Le Graet said, “We’re going to contact them on Monday. There is a little injustice between the groups of five and those of six. Our rivals in the other groups have been able to score more points in official matches. That’s a fact. But the rules have existed for a while. It’ll certainly be complicated. It’ll be changed for the future, I imagine. In my opinion, it’s difficult, but it would be fairer.”
Discarding his blames, world governing body replied via a statement that “FIFA has been contacted by the French Football Federation about the rules of the competition on the terms of appointment of seeded for the draw of the European play-offs.
“However, no formal request was transmitted to us from the FFF. FIFA wishes to confirm that the preliminary stages at the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 cannot be changed during the competition.”
