But former Barcelona manager Guardiola did something more surprising than others; he used private detectives to spy on his players. The news of using detective is being flashed by a Spanish digital newspaper that mentioned that he followed Gerard Pique via hired detectives when he started dating pop star Shakira. Moreover, Pique was not the only one who was being tracked by ‘someone’ coz there were others, like Ronaldinho, Deco, and Samuel Eto’o, as well in his list. Report says, he hired Metodo 3 to keep track on his main players from the period starting from 2008 to 2012. Report reads as, “The Metodo 3 detective agency spied on FC Barcelona players under orders from the then director of Security and now director general of Penitentiary Services for the Generalitat, Xavier Martorell. During the time that Pep managed the ‘Azulgranas’ first team he developed a good understanding and friendship with Martorell, who willingly helped Guardiola to be informed at all times.”
Guardiola has been one of the most successful managers for Barcelona; perhaps he made it win 14 titles during his four years of regime. He is known as the mastermind to convert Barcelona into what it is today. Barca, dominated Spanish and European competitions during his mentorship. Now, Bayern Munich has signed Guardiola to coach starting next season. He is considered one of the most disciplined managers of his time; he was more obsessed in forcing his players to live even their private lives orderly. He also did never allow any of his players to go out of the town before a match.
According to the report, the most probable reason for using a detective agency was that he wanted to see his players fit and healthy, and when he came to know that many players are living an unhealthy lifestyle, he did not hesitate to discuss it with then director of external relations Manel and hired the secrete cops. None of the players has reacted to this report as yet, but it is sure that they will downplay all these allegations, more specifically, Gerard Pique, who is still playing with Barca. This is not the first time a manager has taken such kind of bold step to control his players, many clubs do the same but never accept in public.
