It has been less than twenty four hours passed by Manchester City manager expressed his desire to extend the loan spell of 36-year-old midfielder Frank Lampard looking at the form he has been in this English season and now the same player guided his side to a needed win at Leicester City on Saturday. The game featured the single goal fired by the legendry who as well achieved the feat of scoring 175 Premier league goals in his career. Although, it was a tight finish where both the sides keep fighting for a space until first forty minutes when former Chelsea man got the assist from Samir Nasri and hit the net. With this feat, he became the fourth highest goals scorer in English topflight along with former Arsenal’s Thierry Henry. Only three players are ahead of him: Wayne Rooney with 178 goals, Andrew Cole with 187 goals and Alan Shearer who tops the tally with 260 Premier League goals to his name. Looking at his form in this season, especially after joining the Manchester giant, Blues’ fans would have been sketching their heads since it was manager José Mourinho who sidelined him despite having been playing for them for thirteen long years.
With his last performance Manuel Pellegrini’s recent statement about his stay in England looks even more desired and since City is now close to the top of leaderboard, even fans won’t mind throwing extra money to continue his loan spell. Anyways, what Lampard said after the game in his interview, is, “I’m very happy with, I thought it was going to be out of my reach. I have respect for Henry, he is one of the greatest in Premier League history and to be up there with him his incredible.
“Those are the kind of games we need to get results, we needed to grind them out. We were not at our best but got three points. I’ve watched Leicester and seen even though they are down near the bottom, they are not short of passion. They showed that today. We were nowhere near the force we can be sometimes, but you have to show two sides to your game and I think we did that today.”
In the meantime, former Chelsea player is in no mood to talk about his old days when he used to play for Stamford Bridge side as he seems to be happy residing alongside Pellegrini who admires him the most.
