Chelsea’s midfielder Frank Lampard has achieved a milestone by becoming the highest goals’ scorer for his club beating Bobby Tambling’s record of 202 goals. He also played the lead role in away match with Aston Villa on Saturday by scoring both goals for his side. His goals came on the right time coz Chelsea was trailing with 1-0 at one stage but when Lampard struck a goal in 61st minute and then a winner in the 88 minutes, it was confirmed that Blues would play in the Champions League. It was a dream for his temporary manager to finish at least in the top four, and he did it in style thanks to the record breaking performance by Frank Lampard. Lampard has been playing for Chelsea back since 2001 when he shifted from West Ham and after his twelve years association with the club, 34-year old has now added a milestone to his name and turned into the highest scorer for Chelsea. Looking at his nearby contract expiry, it is not yet sure if he can add too many goals to his magical number, but if he gets an extension, he can surely cross at least 225 goals mark.
The match was dramatic throughout the end; during the first half, Villa had an edge after finishing with 1-0, while during the second half, game turned into Chelsea favor, and pushed them into the Champions league while Villa is now inside the relegation trap. The EPL leaderboard is quite exciting at the moment where top three spots are almost confirmed having Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea on them, while fourth place is still undecided coz both Arsenal and Tottenham have played 36 matches and closely following each other, so final position will better be confirmed once these two teams play their closing matches.
This is an ideal situation for Chelsea manager as well, coz this is what he has always been wanted – to enter his team into Champions league, and now when he has shown his worth for the club, he can safely leave the club being on the top. On the other hand, Lampard is a starlet now and despite his thirty plus age, he can be offered a new contract extension. Many media houses have already flashed news regarding a new contract in the making for the record holder, but nothing has been disclosed either by player or club. So, let us wait and watch to see Lampard’s last tally of goals for Chelsea.
