MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy was more popular coz of England captain Beckham last season and everybody thought at that time that post Beckham will not be so exiting for the Bruce Arena club. But on the contrary, it proved all predictions wrong and started its new MLS season with a striking victory over Chicago Fire, moreover, the victory carried on by a single player: Mike Magee who scored a hat trick by finding the net for three times during the match. Chicago Fire could not retaliate; perhaps they were not able to coz of the power pack soccer display by Galaxy. Notably, Galaxy has won MLS title two times in the past and if they continue their winning streak in similar fashion, they would surely put a tough challenge before all other participants. Magee carried the game on his shoulders right from the beginning, he fired first goal in the 38th minute by a deflected cross. Second one came in the 68th minute when he converted Robbie Keane’s pass into a goal. His last one came in the 74th minute with a rebound shot. Keane finished the tally in the last moments of the game by firing one more goal.
Post Beckham ear brings a new style for Galaxy where they show some strict discipline on the field by utilizing every available opportunity; while on the contrary, Chicago Fire could never present its defense as a major challenge for them. Magee’s performance is also appreciable considering his track record in his last 11 MLS played seasons where he only managed to score a double for two times, and it was his only day to score three goals. Chicago also had some chances to score but they could not capitalize their opportunities, like Chris Rolfe shot on goalie’s giveaway that gone wide and Cudicini deflected kick that crossed the sidebar, otherwise the whole game was in grip of the Galaxy. Even Beckham would have noticed his ex-team’s performance in such a great way.
Magee said after the match, “It was cool. The hat trick was cool, the win was cool, and the best part of the day was getting the rings.”
Similar reactions were also given by Keane who assisted him in all three goals, he said, “You see the quality that he has. The three goals that he scored were exceptional goals … It was one of those things. Sometimes you just hit everything and it hits the back of the net. Mikey had one of those days today.”
