Germany announces its Euro 2016 squad; Marco Reus is axed while Schweinsteiger and Hummels are included

June 1, 2016 by 888Scoreonline

As we do not have any domestic soccer league underway these days, everyone is busy preparing for the Euro 2016 which is going to be the next extravaganza in soccer. While every participant is busy selecting best of its players for the European bash, there are few players who will miss the event again for the injuries they have long been passing through. The 27-year-old German international Marco Reus is one such player who could miss the German squad again after a groin problem that has persistently been itching his health since last couple of years, He missed the 2014 world cup as well for the same reason and now he is expected to miss the Euro event and this is confirmed by the national team manager Joachim Low who talked about the players he will be taking to the France this summer. Talking about the injury to Borussia Dortmund forward Reus, 56-year-old German coach said, “Reus can only run straight right now,” Low told a news conference on Tuesday. He could do no more in training. The medical staff was sceptical that he would be fully fit. It’s a bitter decision for him and us. He would be a major asset for our team if he was fit.”

Likewise team captain Sami Khedira as well added, “It’s a bitter blow for him. Just like 2014, it’s a major setback for him. I am convinced he’ll get another chance on the biggest stage.”

Notably, other two apparent injured players Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mats Hummels are included in the probable list of players for the Euro tourney and this is done after recommendations from their doctors who are confident they both will be completely fit by the time event takes place. The 31-year-old midfielder Schweinsteiger, who partially tore his medial collateral ligament in his right knee, was not expected earlier to play in the event. And 27-year-old defender Hummels, who as well torn his calf muscle during DFB Pokal final on May 21, is also a surprise addition to the national team. Adding about both the players, Low said, “Hummels and Schweinsteiger will be available during the tournament. Schweinsteiger will resume training today, Mats needs a few more days.

“We’ve discussed the decisions we made yesterday and the day before yesterday. We talked to the medical staff. Those decisions hurt me on a human level. It’s a big disappointment for the players. They have to look at it as an opportunity and as motivation.”
