Arsenal winger Gervinho is a definite out for at least three weeks due to his ankle injury. The report is confirmed by Gunner’s boss Arsene Wenger on Thursday morning. Gervinho got his ankle injured in last week’s premier league clash between QPR and Arsenal that was eventually won by Gunners by 1-0 margin. Wenger has had a press conference ahead of Arsenal trip to Manchester United when he told about non availability of his winger for most of the November month. The scheduled matches for Arsenal are UEFA Champions League where it has to face Schalke, Fulham, and Tottenham. Moreover, there are Premier league matches against Manchester United and Tottenham along with Tuesday’s Champions League match. All these matches are not going to be participated by Gervinho coz of his ankle problem. His injury is like sprinkling salt on a wound coz Arsenal is already without midfielder Abou Diaby, left-back Kieran Gibbs, and goalkeeper Wojciech Sczcesny.
Telling about the probable squad for Sunday’s match against Manchester United, Wenger said, “Compared to last week Gervinho is of course out, for we think three weeks. We have no comebacks, no Wojciech, no Gibbs, no Diaby of course as well. Basically the squad should be approximately the squad we had last week. We have no injuries as well from Tuesday night.”
He further added that
“Some players still have heavy legs, but hopefully they will have recovered by Saturday. We play Tuesday again so I will consider the global situation – some players will be available maybe more for Tuesday than Saturday.”
Performance wise, Gervinho has scored three times in his seven Premier League matches this season, perhaps he played more like a central striker rather than being a winger, as he used to be during his earlier period for the club. Since, he was in good form; his injury could mean much more for Arsenal. However, right from the moment he signed on club’s deal in 2011, he has been a soft target for his shadow performances on the field, but this season, his form would have changed the whole picture should he not sustained that injury.
His current deal with gunners is to expire in 2013 which is not far ahead, therefore Wenger was planning to explore his best form in all important matches, but destiny has decided something else for him and he got a severe injury.
