Newly promoted league club Crystal Palace who joined the English topflight just recently, and guess what, it has started showing the vibes of being a league club by asking its manager Ian Holloway to leave the club –though with mutual consent. The reason being told is, as expected, their no so wanted performance in the current session where they are just second to the bottom; in fact, they lost seven of their first eight games in the Premiere league. This is not the first time to see a firing treatment given to a manager as we have seen in the past how top clubs thrown their top officials out for not delivering the results. The news of his ousted was announced in a hurriedly called press conference in central London on Wednesday; club Chairman Steve Parish joined the press meet and informed about their secretly made arrangements with 50-year-old former manager though without mentioning the exact reason for his departure. What he added in his statement is, “Ian’s contract at Crystal Palace has come to an end by mutual consent. Ian felt that a new approach might help keep us in the division.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of working with Ian. He leaves our club with his head held very high. I’d like to put the record straight. We’ve never fallen out. We’ve worked together brilliantly. We feel we need to move on to progress.”
Emotional Holloway also briefed the press and shared his experience at Glaziers, he said, “I have pride in the job we’ve both done. It wasn’t easy. If Steve’s last manager wasn’t headhunted I wouldn’t have been here. We need to shut up shop in this division. At the minute we’ve got a whole new group there.
“Part of my talking with Steve was about am I the one with the energy left? I have to hold my hand up and say we didn’t keep the spirit that got us up. We changed too much too quickly.”
As far his replacement is concerned, Tony Pulis – Welsh football manager – seems to be the first priority while there are other notables who are lined up for the demanding job as well. The 55-year-old former footballer is apparently out of the job since leaving Stoke City last season hence he is the first priority for Parish at the moment while other options are also open. Let’s see how Holloway’s replacement survives in the toughest playing conditions at Selhurst Park – fingers crossed!
