The goalkeeper of Indian national football team and Prayag United football club: Subrata Paul has been arrested by the police in Calcutta on Tuesday night. As told by the police, he had a visit to Dakshineswar Temple near Calcutta with his wife and in laws where he had a spat with other devotees and then with the security personnel. Incident became bigger when his father-in-law Debashish Mukherjee, who is also an Indian national level football player, blamed security personals of misbehaving him and his family. However, security personnel have their own say, they said, Mukherjee himself was dunked and misbehaved with the security personnel and other devotees creating havoc in the temple premises. That’s why they had to intercede and finally arrested Subrata Paul. Paul, however, released on bail after the mediation of sport’s mister in this matter.
Later, both Paul and his father in law denied all the allegations leveled by the police against them, they said, none of theme was drunk at the moment, perhaps, how can they visit a regional place in a drunken stage? However, whole drama became under control just after a short while of their release from Belgachia Police station. Soon after, state sport’s mister Madan Mitra told the media that Indian goalkeeper has been released by the police. Mitra comes to know about the incident when a local media flashed the news followed by the arrest of Paul. Even Mukherjee fired a series of allegations on police personnel for mishandling the incident.
This is not the first time a sport personality has found to be clashing with public or security personnel as we have seen many such incidents in the past in every part of the world. More importantly, the star power and ego play an important role in controlling or spreading such unfortunate events in a public place. Anyhow, at the moment, everything is under control and also wiped out until peoples involved in the mishap desire to take the matter to the court. However, it seems very unlikely for something like this, coz in Calcutta, football is a religion for peoples; hence they take football players with full-on dignity and pride. This is same how Brazilians take on their star footballers in or out of the field. Paul’s club: Prayag United has not issued any statement on this incident yet.
