There have been many cases in the past where a popular soccer player was charged for assaulting his wife or girlfriend, but this is something more severe in nature that happened to John Paintsil’s wife. She was reportedly harshly assaulted by none other than his husband who kept beating her consistently even after she jumped out of her house wall and entered into neighbor’s home. Paintsil followed her into neighbor’s house and slapped to neighbor also. Greater Accra Police P.R.O. Freeman Tettey confirmed about his arrest while he was giving an interview to a news source. Even before his media brief, this news was already out thanks to a freelancer journalist who was there in the police station at the moment when Paintsil was brought into there. According to the freelancer new reporter, he was accompanied by his three kids and being followed by an armed officer. Initially, it was taken as normal domestic violence case, but after looking at injures on his wife’s face especially on her eyes, police is taking all legal courses to register conforming case against him.
John Paintsil was in Ghana’s national soccer team that finished on the fourth place in just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. Beside this incident, Ghana FA is also getting already widespread accusations about misbehavior of its officials in South Africa, and after current domestic violence case against one of its prominent teammates, Ghana FA has to issue a statement that reads as, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA)’s attention has been drawn to allegations of prostitutes invading the camp of the Black Stars during the recent African Cup of Nations campaign in South Africa,’ read the statement.
“The GFA wishes to state emphatically that the allegation is false and has no basis in fact. The GFA put in place strict security measures around the team to ensure that all players and officials were under constant watch to avoid such issues at all times during the competition.”
Police PRO also talked about his wife and neighbor’s health condition, he added, “The information available to us is that he stabbed his wife in the upper eyelid, so we had to quickly rescue the wife and send her to hospital. She collapsed, which suggests she is in a critical condition, but for now we don’t know her current state. When she is stable, we can start taking statements from her. That scared the gentleman who rushed to the police to lodge a complaint.”
