Roberto Di Matteo has taken another brave move by retaining John Terry as captain of Chelsea though after a hefty fine. The man in blue will again wear captain’s armband and enter in the field with full confidence as he had always been doing. There is no need to discuss again as to why he had become an untouchable in last few weeks for everybody, but Chelsea helped him in moving further in his life forgiving what happened in last few months to him. Notably, Terry has been found guilty of passing racial comments to Anton Ferdinand last year. That case has been concluded from FA’s end after imposing a mammoth 220,000 pounds as fine on him. Many consider Chelsea’s decision as full of error this time, but on the other side, Chelsea has issued a statement and clarified how it takes on FA decision, racial abuses, and the whole turnaround happened to him. Bruce Buck, the chairman of Chelsea, discussed Terry’s status via statement given to Associated Press that reads as, “John will continue to be captain of the club. We have taken disciplinary action and we think it is firm disciplinary action and appropriate for the circumstances.”
“We have kept in mind first of all that a court of criminal law found him not guilty. Of course we also note the FA decision and we certainly respect that decision,” he added.
“This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly, it’s not a decision we took in a half-hour meeting. We discussed it over a long period of time.”
Last match that Terry played for Chelsea was against Norwich City on October 6 and since he was absent from the field for his obvious reasons. As Chelsea is leading the leaderboard in current English Premier League after its first eight matches, it is a likely winner of title; hence Terry’s arrival can boost a confidence among other players as well. Reportedly, Terry did not appeal against his fine and left his inclusion’s verdict to Chelsea itself that eventually paid him in kind of a deserving captaincy. Moreover, Chelsea is also set to fine him but did not reveal about the figure yet. Anyways, whatever will be the amount will be highest in club’s history as told by Buck. So, Terry is surely the most controversial player this year who has been fined with two biggest amounts by both: his club and FA.
