Manchester United is among the most looked after soccer clubs in the world, and rightly so each of its contracted players wants to retire from Old Trafford despite of his skill and aptitude to fit in one of the most talented football teams. Irish 25-year-old defender Jonny Evans, who has been with ManU since last 18 months, is keen to further extend his contract for Sir Alex Ferguson; he is looking for a term that could make him an abiding ManU player. However, his earlier spell of 18 months has already been extended for another three and a half years in December, yet he looks forward for another term for the premier league club. Actually, despite being in their site for most of the matches in last one and half year, Evans could not ensure his permanent place in its A-Team; perhaps he also had two loan spells in-between: one for Royal Antwerp and another for Sunderland. Moreover, his recent injuries also could not let him be a stable central defender along with Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. Evans has always been a fan of these two legendry defenders and wants to learn even more playing with them.
He recently gave an interview where he discussed about his admirations for Manchester United, he said, “When I was younger, clubs were asking me to go on trial from a young age and I never went on trial to another club. I just knew that Manchester United was the place I wanted to play football. So to play here throughout my career would be something I would look to do and I’d love to do it.”
He also recalled his first experience at the club playing with his dream central defenders. He said, “When I first came into the first-team squad, the level that those two were playing at was unbelievable. The presence they have, the way they could defend, it was the very top. For younger players to try and emulate that was a big ask. It still is.
“But for me coming through the youth team looking at these two fantastic players, it was all about trying to get to that level – not necessarily as quick as possible but just to the best of my ability. I just tried to be as good as I can be really.
“That’s been the challenge for me. It’s not really been the challenge of getting into a normal first-team – it’s the challenge of trying to reach a standard set by Rio and Vida, two of the best centre-backs in the world.”
