English premier league is perhaps the only league in the world where every losing team customarily blames lots of things for its defeat including, obviously, referee, fans, and even sponsors some time. Last showdown between Liverpool and Southampton at St. Mary’s was one such game that saw Reds crushed Ronald Koeman side by 2-0 and like always, it was, according to Koeman, referee who took few decisions that went against them. But fans seem not willing to buy his excuse as Liverpool has won seven of their last ten games making them a strong contender to finish among four. Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling were the goal scorers in the game with one each in both halves closing their side to Southampton in the leaderboard. They are now just one point behind of Gareth Rogers side; in fact, they can easily bypass them if they carry on winning streak similarly. Interestingly, Brendan Rodgers – Liverpool manager – has accused his opponent for treating Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert – former Reds players -rudely after their loss. This allegation is perhaps new in English soccer but everything is fair as long it works in your favor!
However, reproving Ronald Koeman biased decision allegations, Rodgers said, “Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you don’t away from home. I thought the referee was excellent, but obviously with the pressure he was under from the crowd, especially with them being 1-0 behind, makes it big decisions for him, but I thought in the main he got them right.
“It was an outstanding win for us, very controlled. Of course you have to defend at times, particularly away from home against a very good side, but it’s a wonderful win for us. As the game wore on we might have got in more had we picked our passes better, but two wonderful goals, different types of goals, and defensively very strong.”
Adding about Lallana who used to be his captain for two years and Lambert, 42-year-old said, “Adam was the captain here for two years, gave incredible service to Southampton and I know for a fact he could have left here a number of times and didn’t. And to get the reception he got I thought was disappointing. I looked in the match programme and there was nothing relevant to his time here and all the time has been here since a boy. Then there’s the like of Rickie Lambert — great servants to here, incredible players that have got the club to where it is today. There was no mention of him, which I thought was sad.”
