It was like a horror show for Swansea City when they were almost crushed by the Liverpool like never before. It was a surprising comeback by Brendan Rodgers team coz they were missing a win from last five matches in the league. More importantly, it was big relief for Rodgers by defeating none other than his former club. Factually, it was first Liverpool win against a top 10 team of the league, hence this win is being taken as their comeback win in the league and they can again do the same when they meet Swansea again a week later. The victory improves Liverpool’s position in the leaderboard just above of Swansea and if it could win next few matches as well, it will surely put a challenge for Arsenal or even Chelsea. Actually, Liverpool had a complete control over the game right from the start, but it was almost half time when they could finally score their first goal when Steven Gerrard capitalized a penalty stroke. With a comprehensive victory, The Reds are now confident to finish in the last four. Midfielder Lucas said over his team’s chances,
“We know we still have to improve a lot, but this victory will give us the confidence going into Thursday to try to get through against Zenit. We started this week thinking it could be a really good week for us but then we had the defeat to West Brom and then the loss in the Europa League. It was difficult but the important thing is that we have finished the week off in a positive way by scoring five goals and keeping a clean sheet. If we play like that against Zenit we’ll have a good chance. We are creating a lot of chances in matches, even in Russia we created a lot. If we do that again at Anfield and take them this time then we’ll be able to get through to the next stage.”
On the other side, Michel Vorm, the goalie of Swansea city, apologized to their supporters for their horror show. He was the one who almost tried hard to stop reaching Liverpool to a double digit which would have been a greater setback for them. Perhaps, Liverpool became the first team to fire 35 attacking shots towards Vorm, but fortunately, he saved most them. He accepted their bad performance and said, “We owe the fans an apology because they travel all that way and we play like that – it’s a disgrace,” said Dutch international Vorm. I’ve played a lot of games in my career already but this is probably the worst. As a team you win and lose with each other, but when you have the privilege to play at Anfield against Liverpool in front of their amazing supporters, on a nice pitch, in good conditions and you play like that then you don’t deserve to play at Anfield.”
