Liverpool fight for a fourth place in the league leaderboard

March 17, 2015 by 888Scoreonline

Liverpool

When everyone is discussing who could win the league title this year, there is another side who is looking just to secure a place among top four so they could qualify for the Champions League and that is of course Liverpool who has seen many ups and downs this year. Despite having been a show stopper last year, Brendan Rodgers could not carry good form of his team this year along with few decisions that went against his strategy including release of Suarez to Barcelona. Irishman now talks about the chances of his team to be among the top four and what they need to do to sustain that minimum feat. Like everyone who is passing through this situation, 42-year-old too said they need to perform brilliantly if they want to replace Manchester United’s fourth fourth position who is leading them by five good points along with Southampton and Tottenham who are as well close to the Anfield side. Talking about the upcoming games ahead of them, Rodgers said, “We have 30 points to play for, so I am guessing it will be another 23 points.

“That is how competitive it has been this year. We have won nine out of 11 in January and February, it has been a great run but now we have to be focused on these last ten matches. Everything counts. We have to be aggressive in our game and now we have to nail it in the last ten. I know the players are focused on that.”

He also added about the return of skipper Steven Gerrard if he is fit enough to take on the challenge again and said, “Everyone is waiting to see if Stevie comes into the team or not. What you have seen over my time here is that I rely on the team.

“The team, of course, has to have good players in it, but ultimately it is about the team and what is going to benefit and how we can get results as a team. I will repeat again the most important thing is Steven is back fit and we have Lucas Leiva coming back too.

“That will add to the competition for places and with one game a week, barring the cup game, then everyone is going to be fighting and being competitive about playing. He still has big qualities that we will need between now and the end of the season but I don’t pick a team on whether I like someone or not. What I do know is that Stevie always puts the team first.”
