Young and promising Liverpool and England winger Raheem Sterling has been charged for assaulting a twenty seven year old woman last November when the player was just seventeen. His age made him named as a juvenile; hence his case was heard by a juvenile court here in Liverpool. The incident took place few months back when a mid-aged woman filed a complaint against the footballer; she also had some injuries on her face that time which later proved to be gained out of a physical violence. Though, the hearing was not attended by Sterling; his lawyer Mick Hogan presented his side in the court. Mr Hogan also told the court about his denial of doing any such violent act; perhaps he also pointed out his eighteen years of age which he attained last December; he asked the court to shift his case to an adult court. He said, “I do have instructions to the effect that Mr Sterling will be pleading not guilty to this charge. He is aware of today’s hearing and the club are very supportive.”
Raheem Sterling is a Jamaica born footballer who lives in Woolton; Liverpool, though he is a product of QPR’s youth academy. He joined Liverpool in 2010 as a young player and later he also played for England’s youth teams before making his senior debut for England back in December 2012 – just one month after the incident against that woman. His EPL performance this season has also been appreciated by everyone, and he is being considered as a promising English player of tomorrow. Moreover, he has already named in the England national team for next week’s match against Brazil to mark the English FA’s 150th year anniversary. Looking at his busy commitments, it is unlikely he will attend any court’s proceedings personally, though he admitted via his lawyer that he is willing to cooperate fully during investigations. His lawyer told to the reported later on, “He is aware of today’s hearing and the club are very supportive.”
Since the woman reportedly is a known to the player; such violence could be a result of an argument between both of them, however, nothing has been confirmed by the police. Since the incident is not very old, all the details will be out in coming weeks, and then, his connection in the case could be better framed by investigating agency, until then, let him prepare for his next match.
