Controversies have ever been the integral part of soccer and even today we have at least one controversy happening around every other day but the issues where a big player in involved become the most look after for obvious reasons.
Real Madrid’s priciest player Luis Suarez is one such player who has recently been in the news for his outspoken behavior when he lambasted several issues covering the game. Many times when two players collide during a game, injury happens and this injury sometimes becomes the matter of concern for whole soccer fraternity. Knowingly, Real’s game with Atletico Madrid was the game that gave media geeks a reason to smile since the clash between Suarez and Atletico left-back Luis in the second half has now become the most read about story in the sports dailies not because it happened, which is normal, but for the way it later developed after the aggressive remarks of Luis Suarez.
Actually, everything started when Atletico left-back Luis posted an image on his Instagram handle showing a mark left on his foot after a clash with Suarez in the second half which looked like he was complaining about his clash with the Uruguayan international and holding him responsible for the in-field mishap. Reading about the comment about the clash, Suarez responded in a lighter tone and said over social media, ‘football is a men’s game.’ His response was taken as his sexiest remark over the women soccer labeling them weaker than the men hence woman soccer players decided to take a stand against his statement including Espanyol women’s player Brenda Perez who is the first one to criticize Suarez’s comments. She took the Tweeter to express his views and tweeted, “We exist, #futfem [football femenino]. @LuisSuarez9 I think you should think about your words before you speak. #Piensoluegoexisto [I think therefore I am].”
Apart from her, Santa Teresa Club Deportivo, which is a women’s team based in Badajoz, invited Suarez to watch their game on Saturday and judge if they are anywhere weaker than them.
Barcelona’s manager Luis Enrique is the first one to come in support of his man counterpart which is surprising though. Anyways what he said defending the member of his arch rival side, is, “I just found out about the interest in this. I’m sure Luis didn’t mean to offend anyone, but it’s clear that in this world misinterpretations are the order of the day.”
