Yesterday was the day that belonged completely to Ronaldo and his hat trick for Madrid; perhaps it was his eighteen playing for The Whites. It was the pre quarterfinal of Spanish cup Copa de Rey where Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo by 4-0 including a hat-trick on Wednesday. All these goals were outstanding, but first one scored in the third minute was best among all where his powerful swerving shot from a long distance defeated goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez and rested inside the far side-netting. His performance led Madrid to a win twice in the last four days and this shows how brilliant form he is in. Rolando lost the prestigious Ballon d’Or award to Messi few days back, and it looks he took it too seriously and trying to prove selectors’ decision wrong. Moreover, his contract dispute with Real also deserves a second look after magnificent display of his current form. If he continues this form in next couples of matches it would be a huge plus for Real Madrid, coz there are few crucial matches in coming days, including Champions League clash against Manchester United and with Barcelona in the Spanish league.
How attacking Rolando was can be understood by Celta coach Paco Herrera’s comment about Rolando’s aggressive style of play who said post match that “The team wasn’t comfortable and that first goal that Cristiano hit like something else left even me applauding.” Even Rolando now seems to be confident to win Champions League looking at the way they are surging their position in the leaderboard. Post winning, he shared Madrid’s winning chances and said, “Sometimes people aren’t happy with the coach but we are still in the Champions League and in the Copa – we could even win the league.”
Another Madrid striker Higuain also praised his form and prayed to continue for next few months citing crucial matches ahead. He said, “Let’s hope Cristiano Ronaldo carries on like this. They are going to be four or five hard months ahead of us.” Crowd also appeared to be in good mood when fans across the stadium cheered goalkeeper and Captain Iker Casillas on his selection after his continuous drops, and more surprisingly, it was Coach Jose Mourinho who received position appreciation from the crowd when his name was pronounced in the beginning of the game. Overall, last few matches bring Madrid back into its best form and Rolando also looks serious to prove his contract demand as reasonable.
