Manchester City chief executive wants to win five trophies in five years

May 25, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

Manchester City

Manchester City has been trying to show its optimistic approach towards future games ever since it fired its manager for not securing their EPL title. Roberto Mancini, who mentored the club for three and a half years, faced the heat after shadow performance in the FA Cup final and in the EPL where it ended with a long gap of eleven points from United. Current City chief executive Ferran Soriano, who took over from Garry Cook back in August 2012, is now in charge until City finds its new manager, and according to him, City would now prepare to win at least five trophies in next five years. This statement could look like a hyperbole especially looking club’s last run, but it could also be taken as a reviving turn of a club who was severely blamed for its low minded approach and lack of will to win in last few months. Soriano also hinted that City has no plans to follow their arch rival and appoint a manager that could serve them for more than two decades; perhaps he supports a maximum of five-year term for any manager who joins City. Supporting his decision of just five year tenure, he said, “In football, teams have cycles and you can have managers who go through several cycles and managers who go through one cycle. Obviously, we want the next manager to stay for a number of years, but I think it would not be wise to speculate on the next manager being there for 26 years. This is an exception and I think three, four, five years is one cycle.”

Sacked manager Mancini helped City achieve some long awaiting titles, like FA Cup back in 2011 which was missing from City’s hall of fame since last 35 years. Similarly, he also took away EPL title in 2012 and became one of the few managers who could be as successful as he was in his short spell. Soriano also added about his ambition to win five trophies that “I would say I want to win five trophies in the next five years. That may mean we win no trophies one year and two in another, but on average I want one trophy or title a year. That is the Champions League, the Premier League or the FA Cup.”

So, let’s see how Soriano manages to deliver what he is saying at the moment, or he is trying to calm down fans’ anger for not winning FA Cup and EPL?
