EPL season has now reached to its last leg of nine matches and Manchester United has opened its rank with a comfortable lead over second place holder City. Thanks to the City’s loss at Everton and United win over Reading that placed them on a relaxed position. At the moment, United has a clear advantage of fifteen points from its chaser: City, so only a comprehensive debacle can stop them being the next EPL title holder this year. United’s nail biting finish over Reading gave them a much needed momentum where they finally managed to win just by 1-0 thanks to Wayne Rooney who earned a lead in the 21st minute and rest is done by United defense by not allowing Reading even to equalize the lead. These are crucial days of the league; hence every victory worth more than we could think, and that is why Rooney said after the match, “We knew the three points was the most important thing today — especially after City dropped three points.”
Likewise, Manchester City conceived a 2-0 defeat at Everton despite they were playing with one extra player than Everton during the final hour of the game. Among bottom placeholders, Queens Park and Reading have played thirty matches each and have 23 points each while just top on them Wigan Athletic is on the bank of being in the drop zone and has played just twenty eight matches so far. To bring Villa down, Wigan needs to win at least two more matches taking Villa’s point as static.
Anyways, being on the top with a comfy lead United can dream of winning its twentieth EPL title this year; however we should not forget the role of Reading loss in that. Actually, Reading got many chances to equalize United lead, but they always found throwing ball not on the target especially Hal Robson-Kanu shot while flying from the left which would have more difficult for goalie to stop had it been on the target. On other side, United also missed some chances otherwise they would have enjoyed a big goal difference. Looking at the point differences, City manager is in no mood to accept their defeat in the league; perhaps he favors winning matches now onward irrespective of if they can now win the league or not, he said, “We have an obligation to win football matches between now and the end of the season, regardless of whether there is a points advantage or it is mathematically impossible, which it isn’t at this moment.”
