Manchester United is undoubtedly one of biggest in English perhaps world soccer with millions of diehard fans who cheer and sorrow each of its successes and defeats. It is also a fact that United is nowhere a threatening contender of league title this season thanks to their bad start which never let them recover and they are on the seventh spot in the middle of the season. Despite whatever is the status in EPL, fans were somehow happy to their strong presence in the League One Cup, but Wednesday was the day that crushed all their hopes over there as well when they lost to Sunderland in the penalty shootout. The dramatic defeat caused severe damage to team confidence level along with countless fans who are feeling nowhere in any English competition this year. Manager David Moyes, as always, is on the center of criticism for his decisions during and before the match; fans are holding only him responsible for United’s scary show this year. An incident where a fan called the police emergency services and asked for a talk with former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson gained lots of media coverage, in fact media was desperate to show how fans are taking Red Devils miserable performance these days.
Greater Manchester Police revealed this info today via their social networking account where they said how a depressed fan tried to contact them and asked for a discussion with the former great. Police also said that they did not respond him as this number is only for emergencies not for fans grief after any loss. They categorically explained how it happened and said, “Last night, at approximately 10.30pm a man from the Crumpsall area of north Manchester rang 999 in a drunken state demanding to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson about last night’s result.
“Obviously, it can be a sad and depressing moment when your football team loses a game, however can we all please remember that 999 is to be used for emergencies only. For any other police related enquiries that are not an emergency, you can ring 101.
“If you would like to speak to Sir Alex about recent football results we here at GMP Manchester North can only suggest you try ringing Manchester United directly as you will probably have a much better chance of getting through to him there rather than ringing the police.”
It could just be a minor incident for anyone but United think-tank should take it as an alarming bell if they do not improve their show in the second half of the league season.
