Manchester United is undoubtedly one of the biggest fans based soccer clubs in the world, and to further extend their hold over global fans, United has decided to pay a friendlier in Honk Kong. This is the first time they are playing a match in this region in last eight years; they will meet a local club Kitchee FC on July 29 as their pre session practice friendlier in HK. The match will take place in Hong Kong Stadium which is expected to be full house on the DDay. Notably, United enjoys more than 650 million fans across the world and 100 million fans of them belong to China; hence this match is expected to be jam packed with cheering spectators. ManU stated about this match on their website where its chief executive David Gill said, “The club has tremendous support throughout China and especially in Hong Kong. We have visited on a number of occasions and after an eight-year gap it’s a pleasure for the team to be able to return to Hong Kong again this year. We are looking forward to engaging with our loyal fans, our commercial partners and most importantly preparing for the season ahead.”
Since United is a big club; it is to be assumed that there would have been an agreed deal for the match, however, organizers have not revealed anything about the money they paid, but Hong Kong government has reportedly paid around one million to EPL giant. On the other hand, Kitchee chairman Ken Ng is excited to see his team facing some of the best talents around; perhaps he called ManU as, “undoubtedly the best-supported football club here and their local fan base is legendary.”
He also welcomed ManU citing, “Kitchee welcomes Manchester United to return to Hong Kong after an absence of eight years. This is indeed a mega event for Hong Kong because Manchester United is undoubtedly the best-supported football club here and their local fan base is legendary. The match between Kitchee and Manchester United will also be the thrilling conclusion of a week of English Premier League football in Hong Kong this summer. We are looking forward to bringing to the Hong Kong public one of the most exciting international exhibition matches ever. On behalf of the Kitchee Foundation, I sincerely express our thanks to the Mega Event Fund for their contribution to make this event possible.”
In EPL, ManU is leading the tally with its top position in the leaderboard, however, second place holder Manchester City is also much optimistic for its win, but ManU is being considered as the probable winner this season. Continuing its winning streak, ManU defeated Fulham by 1-0 on Sunday stretching its lead even more.
