Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has clearly denied reports that say he could join Russian club Zenit St Petersburg if his contract at Etihad Stadium expires prematurely. He signed a five-year contract with EPL club last summer so chances of him leaving the club are very low looking at the recent developments. He jokingly said at a press conference recently that he can’t bear the cold at Russia hence he is not leaving to anywhere! Actually, big spending Russian club has not seen so much improvement in its position either in Russian league, where it lasted on the third spot, or in European League, where it has been knocked out by Basel on Thursday despite spending multi millions on Hulk and Axel Witsel last summer; hence they have approached Mancini to replace its current coach and Mancini fellow Italian Luciano Spalletti. Likewise, City’s performance in EPL this season was also not memorable; they knocked out of the league in group stage along with defending champion Chelsea, and City boss is reportedly blaming Mancini as responsible for their EPL debacle.
Moreover, in Champions League quarterfinals as well there is no EPL team this year which, according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, is a wakeup call for EPL coz it happened for the first time since 1996.
Mancini further added in the press conference, “When I hear this, these are stupid things. It is impossible to win every year. Don’t say now English football went down because last year Chelsea won the Champions League. English football has three teams in the Europa League quarter-finals. For three or four years, English teams can win or go in the final and one year, maybe other teams can do better than English teams.
“It is like in Italy, we win one game and we are the best team in the Champions League. We lose one game and it is disaster. This is football. If the same teams win every year, football would be like other things. Instead, football is before this because every game can change, every year a different team can win.
“When I read this thing about English football being down I thought it was stupid. This reaction is like Italy where if you win one game you are the best team and if you don’t it is a disaster. This is football. If every year the same teams win, football would be like other things. Football is good for this. Every year things can change.”
