ManU drew with Liverpool at Anfield last night, Mourinho downplays hosts show

October 18, 2016 by 888Scoreonline

This is not uncommon to see a visiting side fails to overcome the hosts no matter how many big stars it is carrying with it and whenever it happens to a desperate side who is eager to achieve a victory it becomes much more than just a game.

This is something that happened with Manchester United who could not overcome Liverpool at Anfield yesterday and match ended in 0-0 draw. It was grossly a better performance by the Reds than Red Devils and this is what is itching the United boss Jose Mourinho who is infamous for losing his temper when not winning games and it exactly happened last night when his stars studded side could not cross the solid defense posed by the Jürgen Klopp’s defensive lineup. Like always home crowd was eager to see a favorable finish but at last they were happy to secure at least half points off it while for visitors it was more than a disappointment coz they were the hot favorite to take full points out of it.

Obviously, the result was not easy to digest for the Portuguese hence he did not weigh Liverpool performance and said in the post-match press conference, “They are not the last wonder of the world, like you like to say they are, but they are very good team. It was more difficult for them than it was for us. We kept control of the game for long periods. In the first half, we were completely in control. In the second half, David De Gea made two great saves but it was out of context.

“We controlled very well the emotion of the game and ourselves and also we could influence the atmosphere of the stadium. They were always showing their disappointment. I thought they were waiting for an easy match for them but it wasn’t.”

Talking about the missed opportunity when Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to score on a headed chance, former Chelsea boss said, “We had a big chance that I thought Zlatan was going to score. If he did, 1-0, goodbye, it’s finished. We missed a little bit of sharpness through the middle, where Pogba was. I expected a bit more penetration. That was the game we played. We knew they wanted to press our first phase of building up.”

You can call it a soft reaction from the ManU boss else he could have been lambasted everything after not winning a much needed game!
