Every change in the top management brings substantial changes to the entire team including confidence level of each team member and it holds ever truer if a side has passed through a bad phase. You guessed it right, we are talking about league side Manchester United and Van Gaal who seems to be extremely optimistic for their league show this season. Though, United has won its first preseason game in the US in front of the record number of crowd, yet Dutchman looks to be hungrier than ever on his English spell. Many teammates have now transformed from member of a losing side to their well-known starlet status and 30-year-old Scottish midfielder Darren Fletcher is one of them who is quite sure their team would not only finish among the top four in English topflight but they have good chances to even win the upcoming league season.
His words could be overstated but even if this side could surge from last year’s seventh spot to anywhere around top four, it would be the outstanding performance by the new boss on his first English spell. Looking at recent speedy signings by Old Trafford side everyone start believing that something is going to change with their favorite side and looking at their performances, especially vibes of the players during initial preseason games, they never looked to be belonged to a side who finished almost near relegation zone last year.
Quoting their dreams as the dangerous ones, Fletcher revealed their target this season in an interview and said, “I don’t think so, no. We go out to win the league. It is a dangerous mindset to have, to target fourth place. We are not players or a club that thinks like that and we will be going out to win the league.”
He added about the Liverpool, the side they are going to meet in the final of the International Champions Cup on Monday, and said, “I think Liverpool showed that last year and we believe we can win the league again. Liverpool didn’t have European football last year and they went close to winning the league, so hopefully we can go one better next year.”
He further believes that their show in preseason trophy leaves a lethal impact over opponents who have already started refining game plans to tackle rejuvenated United army. Adding about recent games, he said, “They have been fantastic. The results are important, but so are the performances and they have got better with every game. Hopefully that can continue, but the main thing is winning games and getting that mentality back. We can feel it coming back. Before the first game, we spoke about doing that — winning and getting the feel-good factor of winning because it breeds confidence.”
