Marouane Fellaini not leaving Everton as his release clause expired

August 15, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini has been an ambitious midfielder for many clubs last season coz of his steady performance in the league matches, but surprisingly, there is no taker for the midfielder and his release clause expired without any bid. Notably, there was a clause in his contract which ensures he can make a shift if any club offers more than £22 million for the Belgian footballer, and its expiry made Everton happier coz they were expecting someone will come forward and trigger his transfer deal. According to rumors, Manchester United and Chelsea seemed to be interested in the player, in fact, reportedly, a deal was also being prepared in the backyard which never materialized. But since Moyes has enough meat at the center now, Fellaini’s clause went unnoticed. Now, according to Everton manager Roberto Martinez, who took the job from Moyes this summer, there are shun chances now that player will seek a new home. Over the past few months, many Everton players have been linked with other clubs and Manchester United is the leading name among them for obvious reason, but Martinez has affirmed he is not willing to release his key players to anyone including EPL champions.

Fellaini joined Everton from Standard Liege at a £15m price tag and got his contract extension in November 2011 to retain him until 2016. Now, Toffeemen can celebrate their star midfielder stay for another season at least. Martinez, who joined Goodison Park club from Wigan, said, “Marouane had a clause that was very straightforward, but that finished on July 31. Everyone was a bit expectant. We now focused on adding to the squad. I’m not concerned at all. I’m looking internally at our squad and this is normal. Until it closes, you will get speculation.

“Not just at Everton but every other club. Up until now, all we have done is talk about speculation. Now this is the start of the season and we can look forward. It does not affect us internally. We need to make sure we start the season well and we want to close the window with the strongest possible squad. Then you can evaluate. This is not a moment to set targets in terms of points. If there are any players coming in or going out the fans will be the first to know. But we are in a position where I don’t mind to have other clubs looking at my players because that means they are doing good things.”
