Messi could be the undisputed king of contemporary soccer by his unparalleled records, but he has lots of potentials apart from football which he shows in a new series of ads for his sponsor brand Herbalife. A series of new ads features him playing other sports with their legendary players and overcoming them using his brilliant soccer skills. Perhaps, new ads show him playing cricket, basketball and table tennis. The new campaign looks interesting for Argentinian great as he has featured in other sports probably for the first time and very happy with his new avatar besides a soccer icon. Actually, he singed with nutrition brand back in 2010 and since then he has done many ads for them, this time, he made an appearance where he is shown defeating other masters in their own sports. Reacting to his ads that splashed just few hours back, he said, “I’m very happy to be associated with such a large, established nutrition company as Herbalife that’s known around the world. Together, we can help spread the word about how healthy nutrition can help athletes achieve the most out of their training, while at the same time work together on projects to help children at risk.”
Messi has many extraordinary records on his name, like scoring in 15 consecutive league matches when no other has scored in more than 10 successive league matches. Moreover, he also holds a maximum number of goals’ record in one calendar year along with winning four Ballons d’Or awards which is again a first by the Argentinian great. He has achieved all this at an age of 25, which is going to be very difficult for new age players dreaming about leveling any of his records. His current tally of 333 senior goals is unparalleled in soccer history and it is going to increase further coz he is not the Jordan who would retire from the top!
Anyways, his latest ads are prepared considering upcoming world cup and its popularity in countries where cricket, tennis, and basketball are more popular than soccer. There are many countries where cricket is the first game; hence sponsors have used best of the both worlds by doing such a smart act. Messi is not the only soccer or perhaps Argentinian great to feature in non-soccer ads; Maradona has also done some campaigns where he was shown admiring other sports along with soccer.
