Whatever happened to Messi’s life last year is remarkable; perhaps he is the only Barcelona player who is surely going to last his career at Camp Nou, while other players will keep changing from time to time. Under the current arrangements, Messi has been contracted to play for Vilanova’s team up to 2016, and as per the recent buzz, Barcelona has again agreed to extend his contract expiry for another two years. That means; Messi will be lasting his career at Barcelona only. Other players who have been offered contract extensions are Xavi, and Puyol. While Xavi contract is lined up for expiry in next summer, Puyol’s current contract is to expire after the current season itself, and both of them have now been offered another term with the club to cheer their rememberable journey with Blaugrana. The new contracts are scheduled to be prepared in coming weeks, and then all these players will become indispensable Barcelona players for rest of their professional lives.
Messi has had a sensation season this year where he broke many records, including Mullers’ forty-year old record of scoring a maximum number of goals in one calendar year. Besides, he is also among the three shortlisted players for soon to be announced FIFA Ballon d’Or award, and he does so, he will be the first player to retain the title for four consecutive years. Besides Messi, Xavi and Puyol could not have a striking season last year, coz they could only score five combined goals out of their 38 league matches. Anyways, since they have ever been the best defenders for Barca, they have been offered another contract term. Age wise too, both these players have passed best of their careers’ era, so they can enjoy their last few sessions playing under the umbrella of Barcelona.
The amount for each of these contracts has not been specified as yet, but everyone expects Messi’s amount to be one of the biggest looking at his last year’s performance and his age factor, while other players would also have lucrative figures under their belts. Barcelona issued a statement on its website mentioning about these contract extensions, it reads as, “This news means that FC Barcelona has secured its ties with three of its most important players. Over the course of the next few weeks, Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernandez and Leo Messi will all be signing their respective new contracts.”
