Upcoming league clash between Manchester United and Chelsea is, of course, amongst the most awaiting showdowns of the season and its beauty further enhanced with United’s long time absentee Michael Carrick’s availability. Manager Gaal has recently showed his grief over injuries to some of his key players ahead of upcoming games and after Carrick’s recovery off his ankle surgery gave him a hope to defeat the league leaders. Actually, 33-year-old midfielder was missing the field since last July when he damaged his ligament on the day Dutchman joined the side. However, he played in the Monday game but was more a spectator than the player and upcoming game could be his first after months break. This is also noticeable that his space is not secure as off yet coz former Barcelona manager has already hired Daley Blind to substitute Carrick in the midfield area and former Ajax player also made significant contribution to his side.
Those who are following The Red Devils know that this is a correction phase for their side and they are gradually recovering from a debacle start of the season, in fact, they just lost one game out of last five games to surge their leaderboard position a bit and Carrick is hopeful, they can even comeback in the English topflight if they could win their next few games. Talking about the newly formed confidence in the side, he said, “We are confident. We go into any match confident that we can get the right result. We are still learning each other’s games because it is a pretty new squad with new signings and a new manager. It is progressing in the right way, we feel we are improving all the time.
“We are getting better and there are good signs to show that if we stick at it then there are good times to come. We go into every match positive and we have certainly got the firepower to cause a lot of teams problems.”
On the other side, Chelsea, who is in terrific form this season with an unbeatable run till now, would surely be the biggest hurdle for Gaal’s dream to comeback in the tourney. Adding about their upcoming rivals, Englishman added, “You can’t help but be impressed. They have got a good balance at the moment and they look really strong at the back. They have a great back five, a good mix in midfield and going forward they look dangerous. Put all of that together and it makes a pretty decent team.”
