Rewards and punishments are not the prerogative of English Premier League clubs, perhaps it happens around the world including Italian league Serie A. Following the tradition of punishing non performing executives, it was in the news off late that AC Milan is about to sack its CEO Adriano Galliani for club’s miserable performance this season. Notably, 69-year-old Italian has been serving the club since 1986, in fact, he used to be compared with United legendry manager Alex. Anyhow, you can call it a generation change or whatever, but ever since Silvio Berlusconi, daughter of club owner Barbara Berlusconi, has joined the board of directors, she made many changes on every level of club administrations, including sale of their starlets like Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to German club PSG. Apart from that, some of the well-known names also freed from their club duties. If we look at few transfer windows off late, Milan did not show any interest in making high profile investments on buying players or executives, which as then linked with Barbara own decision to moderate his father legacy.
Anyway, Barbara has now denied all the allegations of her involvement in the decision which asked for sacking of Galliani last weekend. Though she accepted to have discussed with her father to change the philosophy they are working on. She revealed this in an interview given recently where she said, “I have never asked for club administrator Adriano Galliani to be dismissed. In the numerous phone conversations I’ve had with my father after the defeat to Fiorentina, I simply asked for a change of business philosophy at Milan.”
Many insiders are blaming Galliani’s strange signings in the last few years which were then linked with Barbara. His last move to call back Kaka from Real Madrid amazed everyone looking at the performance of 31-yeard-old Brazilian off late. Club coach Allegri clarified all the bad works happened at San Siro lately as, “This is the most difficult time in my three and a half years at Milan. We have to find a solution. I don’t think it’s a question of the transfer market. In football, it’s results that count.
“We simply have to play better and prepare in the best possible way for our game at Barcelona. My future? At this time I have to find a solution to the problems and somehow I will do it. The club will have to take its decisions. The most important thing is to project calmness to my players.”
