Miroslav Klose retires off international soccer

August 11, 2014 by 888Scoreonline

Legendry players always dream to announce their retirement after the world cup, and sometimes they intentionally wait for the FIFA event just to enhance their lifetime achievements in this global event. If we are talking about a world cup, imagine how pleasing it would have been to be named as the highest goals scorer over here and that is why 36-year-old German forward Miroslav Klose had been waiting for the Brazilian tourney. Though, he had been impressive in the tourney despite his age and all that but significantly he would be known for his unprecedented feat, i.e., he is now the highest goals scorer in the world cup. He broke the record until held by Brazilian Rolando and enlisted his name into all-time legendry players of the world. After achieving whatever he ever desired from the game, Klose finally said goodbye to international soccer which means he would not be available for the national team, however, would continue playing at club level – if he is needed anymore!

He served his country for thirteen long years and played 137 matches in them which is again an achievement in itself. The significant part of his career is obviously his last global event: world cup where he was not the surplus asset for his side perhaps he was the key player irrespective of his age and he proved this fact in the semifinal when scored two back to back goals against the hosts to enter into the final. Besides being the highest world cup scorer, he is as well the higher goals scorer for his national side with seventy one international goals – three more than Gerd Muller.

His retirement has not come as a surprise as everyone had expected him to announce something like this, especially after German’s lifted the world title. While announcing his departure off the game, emotional Klose said, “With the title in Brazil, a childhood dream came true. I am proud and happy that I was able to help shape this great success for German football. For me, there can be no better time to close the international chapter.

“Team success stood, and stands, above everything for me. I have reached a huge goal — a goal that we shared as a team. But I have also reached goals I set myself personally. Whoever knows me knows that I am very ambitious. I am an attacker, and an attacker’s job is to score goals.”
