Chelsea has undoubtedly been the most straightforward English club this season with an unparalleled unbeatable run after playing eleven games. They won nine of them and maintained their lead position in the leaderboard which is almost incredible looking at their last season show which was not bad but was not as good as well. Blues manager Jose Mourinho is the man responsible for this overnight transformation in the Stamford Bridge army and looking at their last win against Liverpool, where they were once trailing by one goal; they look even more refined for the English topflight. Former Everton manager has already said that he wants to revisit his last Chelsea spell when he won two back to back league titles and looking at his victory march, even his critics have started believing his exaggerated media statements. Calling it purely a mental difference between his side and all the others playing in the current season, second term serving Portuguese said, “It think it’s the mentality. It’s not in the legs because players who did not play during the week have more energy in the legs than people who played. That’s obvious. So I think what makes the difference is inside.
“I was a champion in different countries with different clubs and there are points that are always present. I had it at Porto, at Inter Milan and at Real Madrid. I had it here in my first spell and I’m having it now. It’s something that you have to have always — people who are always ready to sacrifice themselves for their team, people that push to help. I’m so pleased about that.”
English clubs believe that more a side will spend on hiring big players, maximum the chances it will enjoy to succeed in the field, but many times it proves wrong and this year is not an exception either. Like Manchester United, who spent biggest amount in the summer window, is nowhere among the top five while Chelsea who hired no big name last summer, is doing magic in the field. Replying why they did not hire a starlet, Mourinho added, “We got players to improve the team, not the squad. The team had an evolution in everything from last season, they have learned a lot. They know each other well, they are adapted to my personality, I am adapted to them, they are getting experience — we are a better team.”
