Jose Mourinho joined Chelsea back with a hope to do the same magic he did last time to The Blues, and has proved it as well by taking them to the third place in the English top flight, but bigger concern is how he can ensure a performance from his army. If we look at the Capital One Cup, this team has lost six games so far this season, and more importantly, he lost to Sunderland by 2-1 in extra time at Stadium of Light which forced Portuguese football manager to revamp his strategies for the club. Sunderland is the same team who is nowhere in the English premier league and a defeat from this kind of team can raise several eyebrows up, including that of club bosses. Actually, Chelsea owner Abramovich had lots of expectations from Mourinho when he called him back, but he is not proving to be a motivating force for the team. Amid all the speculations about the fate of Blues in the EPL and Capital One Cup, 50-year-old Portuguese manager is planning to refine his strategies for rest of the season across all the leagues. At the time, he is more concerned about their defense coz they are continuously conceding goals from every opponent; hence he first wants to secure his own goal post then to attack on the opponent’s.
He talked about his changing approach with the reporters and said, “Maybe the way to rectify it is not to concede goals. Maybe the way is to have a different approach and not to concede goals because when you don’t score enough goals, when you are a very offensive team and you don’t score enough goals to win matches, maybe the right approach is to be more defensive, concede fewer goals and win matches with the few goals we score.
“That’s not what I want because that’s not what we have in mind in the building up of this team. We want this team to play the way we are playing, we want this team to have evolution, but based on the football we are playing at the moment. We need to score goals to finish opponents because we feel very comfortable on the pitch. The possession of the ball becomes easy, the creation becomes easy. We had big chances to score goals, but we didn’t score.
“The quality of football we produced is amazing. We never lost a match because we didn’t play or that the opponent was stronger, it’s just we don’t kill opponents and we give them life. Every opponent knows they can score a goal.”
