Everyone loves to see a defending champions behaving like a defending champion, and this year when Manchester United failed to impress with his shoddy show, everyone was highly disappointed especially new manager David Moyes who just replaced legendry Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. The 50-year-old Scottish football manager is now happy and jubilant looking at his team’s performance under pressure; perhaps their last win over Stroke was magnificent where they came from the back and eventually won the game. Actually, Moyes is now the happiest man in this world coz he earlier faced widespread criticism from every corner of the world first on his failure to sign players in transfer window and then not been able to motivate payers to defend their earned title. In fact, after a setback from West Brom and Southampton, former Everton manager was highly disappointed and highly expected to revive team’s winning streak, and rightly so, Wayne Rooney and substitute Javier Hernandez proved their worth for the team by scoring two magnificent late goals.
It was disappointing day for the visitors where they could not sustain their lead they took in the third minute. Later, thanks to Robin van Persie assisted equalizer that leveled the scorecard and then Hernandez who finished the job for defending league champions. Jubilant Moyes described his feelings after the match and said, “I thought with 15 to 20 minutes to go the supporters were terrific – they drove the team on and they played a big part in getting the result.
“I thought in the end we had to go for it. I thought we did a lot of good things but an awful lot of really poor things that put us in the situation we were in. We got ourselves back in the game just before half-time only to concede from a poor, poor free kick. That got us going in at half-time on a downer but I said at half-time your job is to win the game and you’re more than capable of doing it. We needed the substitutes today and they made a big difference.’”
He specifically praised his goalkeeper who saved some brilliant firing shots from the visitors, especially in the first half when they were on the peak of their form. He added, “We needed our goalkeeper to make an extraordinary save again in the first half but that’s what he’s in the team for. At times our play was good but we just couldn’t find the final ball. But the three centre forwards we had on the pitch scored a goal today and that was pleasing.’”
So, it could be a needed breakthrough for the Scottish manager, and who knows, United now comes back to its well-known image.
