It is very common in soccer that a player starts noticing how gradually his aspirants are ignoring him, and when it starts happening to him, he should consider it an end of his relationships no matter how long it was. It usually happens when either he has grown enough to play again or his team has got another talented player- better than him. This is something that is being happened with Liverpool’s 31-year-old goalie Pepe Reina who always wanted to continue playing for his favorite club until the end of his career, but destiny has something else for him and that is why Anfield club has loaned him to Italian club Napoli last year. Though, he is happy playing under Rafael Benitez’s mentorship, yet he misses England very much. Now, when it has been made clear from the Reds that he would also not feature in the next season, he lost all the hopes and starts counting the end of his prosperous career. At the moment, he has somewhere around three years remaining to his current contract with EPL club, and as per Brendan Rodgers, they are not willing to offer him an extension. He is not worried looking at the end of his career, but he is upset with the way his charming club treated him, in fact, manager did not even consult him before sending him to Serie A club.
Explaining his chances to play for English side again he said, “No. At the moment it’s difficult to think about being a Liverpool player next year. They have a young goalkeeper in Simon Mignolet and the manager prefers him to me. That’s the reason why I’m here and he will be at the club next year as well.
“There’s no reason to think I’ll be a Liverpool player from now on but we’ll see where the future takes us. It’s been a good move so far and I don’t regret what happened. I would have preferred to say goodbye in a different way.”
While recalling his swift exit from Tom Werner’s side, he added, “It did come as a surprise. It was the club who made the move. I was on my holidays and nobody told me anything. Suddenly Napoli called and said they were agreeing terms with Liverpool and Liverpool just rang me two days later and said the same. They probably had their own reasons.”
