It was a major blow for Manchester United when its skipper Nemanja Vidic has had a serious knee injury in September, and everybody expected him to be out for at least eight weeks. Even, Sir Alex Ferguson, United manger, ruled out any possibility of him to return for The Reds before two months. But, in a dramatic turnaround, Vidic is expected to return into the field much earlier, i.e., within a fortnight probably. His return after a gap of two months, and especially at a time when ManU need him the most, is like a dream comes true for United. If everything proceeds as it looks, Siberian defender could be a part of Manchester United’s squad for its clash against Cluj on Wednesday, 5th December. Ferguson said over his star defender’s early return, “Good defenders win you the league. It would be nice to play him on Wednesday in the Champions League against Cluj.”
Moreover, if he could successfully play his debut match after a long break; he would get a place in the next match too, i.e., against Manchester City on 9 December. This season has been like a draught for the defender, coz he could only play four matches in current Premier League; his last played match was on 19th September against Galatasaray in the Champions League. At the moment, he has successfully been training for past few days, and showed good signs of his much needed return. However, it is like good news along with a bad one for Ferguson, coz Nani’s hamstring injury is expected to keep him out for rest of this calendar year. Ferguson said over Nani’s extended rest, “Nani is out, maybe for a long spell — four or five weeks. Hamstrings are hamstrings and he just needs time.”
Anyways, at the moment, Vidic’s arrival is better news than Nani’s non availability, yet Ferguson has not counted on his sure return for now. What he said over this is, “I think the best way is for us to let him decide himself when he is ready, he’s got the experience and knows what’s best for him and when is the right time for him to come back into the team.
“He started training during the week and did okay. He was not involved in the real competitive part but at least he is back in training with the first team, which is good news.”
