When Manchester United defeated Newcastle by 4-3 at Old Trafford on the Boxing Day, it was more than a flawless display of soccer desperation where Red Devils showed why they are on the top of EPL’s leaderboard. But that match also became famous over United boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s confrontation with referee Mike Dean, not once, but several times. Actually, the match itself was a nail biting until the finish, and United had to come from the back three times to secure their top position in the final tally. Indeed, if there would have been anybody else who have invaded the pitch in the way Ferguson did post lunch session, he would definitely be subjected to FA’s disciplinary actions, but some top and respected soccer officials enjoy having some perks of esteem whereby some of their tiny offences get excused by everybody. Here too, Mike Dean did not mention anything about his confrontation in his match report; hence FA has now confirmed that no action will be initiated against Devil’s boss.
In reality, manager lost his control when referee awarded Newcastle’s second goal in United’s 4-3 win overruling his assistant Jake Collin. There were more such incidents, like when Dean allowed a goal to be a legal one despite Collin marked it offside. Furious Scot said over referee’s decisions, “The referee changed the linesman’s mind. He said it was an own goal. But if you see it again, and the referee can’t, the guy is in an offside position, then he pulls Evans’ arm. If that is not interfering, what is? I think it was a bad decision.”
Moreover, Premier League also seems to be in Alex side when they say, “Since he did not play the ball then how come he interfered with the game.” So, now, it has been confirmed from both FA and EPL that United manager has not done anything wrong, so no disciplinary proceedings are due against him. Many are taking it as a power influence of a big giant in English soccer, perhaps many labeled it as like entire FA is in the pocket of Alex! Nonetheless, it is also true that this is not a case which will easily be forgotten, perhaps there would be more alike incidents in the future where people will compare actions taken against them with this incident. So, United seems to be defining new definitions of pitch invasion by a big club’s top official.
