It’s not far behind when Terry’s case was disposed off by FA with hefty fine and suspension, and now, there another case has opened; this time against referee Mark Clattenburg who reportedly used some abusive racial words against two Chelsea’s players. The incident took place in the last match between Chelsea and Manchester United on Sunday which was won by Man United by 3-2. Chelsea’s teammates also said to have listened Clattenburg calling John Obi Mikel a ‘monkey’ and another player Juan Mata a ‘Spanish twat.’ The matter heats up immediate as the racial comments have become intolerable after some big abuse cases recently. Perhaps, Chelsea has already started its own internal inquiry to the matter to find the exact facts of the case, and later there will be an external lawyer who will guide them about all available legal remedies.
For now, Chelsea has initially made a complaint to Premier League match delegate who will pass the complaint to Football Association. On other sides, Referees’ organization Professional Game Match Officials has also issued a statement that reads as, “PGMO is aware of the allegations and they are being treated with the utmost seriousness. Mark will co-operate fully and welcomes the opportunity for the facts to be established.” Further, Clattenburg is in no mood of accepting these allegations, he perhaps shocked to see a complaint has been made by Chelsea over the issue. Secondly, he also has his opinion where he doesn’t find anything racial in those words though he also refuses to have said them.
After a formal complaint, police and FA are investigation the matter and all the microphones of four officials have been taken into custody to listen all the conversations during the match. Simultaneous to this, Chelsea’s internal investigation is also running which is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, and then, Chelsea would decide if it needs to file a formal complaint of the issue, though an initial complaint has already been filed by them. The way, investigation is being conducted by Police and FA via microphones and video footages, is not appreciated by everyone – especially in a game of soccer. Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo said on this as, “It is a shame a game like this had to be decided in that manner by officials Surely when the referee watches it he will realise he has made big mistakes.”
