Manchester United is the ruling champion of contemporary soccer and it is because it cares his players and gives them full exposure to develop their skills. One of their legendry United players Paul Scholes has decided to quite soccer for the second time coz of his persisting injuries and growing age. Actually, it is rarely seen that a 38-year-old is given a contract deal, but Sir Alex Ferguson offered him a one year contract extension last year when he announced his retirement for the first time. Despite his retirement, he had to come back this year coz he was missing soccer very much, and his manager fully supported him in reliving his soccer life at United. It was rather a bad luck for him that he could not play lots of matches this season; perhaps his last match played was in January. Actually, he has played for United throughout his career which shows his dedication and loyalty towards Manchester United, and more importantly, he witnessed some of the finest successes United has achieved during those years, including eleven premier league titles, three FA Cups, two Champions League titles, two League Cups, and five Community Shields. Besides, he has also played sixty six international matches for England.
However, the most proudly achievement for him is being only the third player to play more than 700 matches for United. Other players who made their debut along him have already retired from international soccer. This year, he missed most of the played matches coz of his knee problem and even during those he played; he was more in the stand than on the field, hence it was evident for him to finally say goodbye to soccer. On the occasion, he said, “Yes I am finally hanging up my boots for good. Playing football is all I have ever wanted to do and to have had such a long and successful career at Manchester United, under the greatest manager of all time, has been an honor.”
His journey at Old Trafford was also praised by retiring manager who said, “Paul is a truly unbelievable player. He has always been fully committed to this club and it has been a real privilege to work with him for so many years. Paul will play at Old Trafford on Sunday against Swansea and will collect an unbelievable but well-deserved 11th Premier League medal.”
So, let’s applaud the nineteen-year long soccer journey of one of the legendry soccer players of our times.
