Liverpool has probably been the only league side everyone expect to show their best every season thanks to their past when they used to be invincible. Last season was arguably their worst in many years when they made several mistakes one after another and could only end their campaign residing on eighth position on the leaderboard, but neither fans nor its well-wishers want to repeat the same hence Reds are getting invaluable advices from every corner about how they can regain their lost pride. Manchester City legend, Peter Barnes, is the next who offers his expert advice to the Anfield side when said they should immediately name new signee James Milner as the captain if they want to confidently begin their next league season. This is a known fact that Brendan Rodgers needed someone who could motivate the team ahead of the league season and after arrival of several new signees it is important too. The outgoing captain Steven Gerrard was one of the best for the job in Barnes eyes too, but after his sad departure from England, Liverpool needs someone who could recoup the loss to a maximum extent.
Talking about Gerrard departure and club’s upcoming Asian and Australian tours, 58-year-old former City pro said, “Everyone at Manchester City was sorry to see James go because he was the kind of player who was consistent, week in week out, and would score important goals in all competitions. After Steven Gerrard’s departure, Liverpool should make Milner their skipper and let him play anywhere he wants in the midfield, whether it’s central or in a wider role. He’s only 29, is one of the fittest players in the league, and could really make a big difference for Liverpool.”
Adding about Mario Balotelli and if this notorious striker is still reliable, he said, “With a fitness cloud above Daniel Sturridge, Brendan Rodgers may need to rely on Balotelli upfront. And who knows: he may actually come good. Mario played well for City during his time with us and has the talent to score goals for Liverpool too. What Rodgers needs to do is to start Balotelli every game and hope that he will regain his confidence. On his day, he’s a potential match winner. Milner should have started more games for City and the club will definitely miss him. City’s loss is Liverpool’s gain and I expect him to be a success straight away at Anfield.”
