In the transfer season, one more transfer has been taken place where Portland Timbers has reportedly acquired midfielder Diego Valeri as a designated player from Argentina’s first division Club Atletico Lanus. Since, this transfer is on loan, and especially as a designated player; his salary will not be counted under club’s overall salary ceiling. American professional football club Portland Timber can only use newly loaned player if he gets clearance to play in the United States which looks mare a formality now. Diego Valeri has been playing for Lanus since almost nine seasons with a descent record of scoring 25 goals in 128 played matches. Moreover, he was the main player to make his club win Primera Division title back in 2007, and his loan amount would definitely be handsome, according to sources. Since, he also played for Argentine national team and has been signed as a designated player; he will fill the international slot at Portland Timbers.
Once midfielder gets his P-1 visa along with International Transfer Certificate (ITC), he will be official entitled to play for an American soccer club. This is not the first time he has been moved on loan, coz earlier too he has spent one season with FC Porto of Portugal in 2009-10 along with a loan spell in La Liga campaign with Spain’s UD Almería during 2010-11. So, he has sufficient experience of how it feels to play for another team. Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson issued a statement that says, “Valeri is a tremendous acquisition and his desire to join the Portland Timbers was an integral part in getting him on loan, At his age and with his ability, we expect to be in a position to purchase this player and make him a permanent fixture in Portland.
“Diego Valeri is certainly a tremendous addition to the Timbers and will bring quality and creativity to our attack,” said Caleb Porter, head coach of the Timbers. “We expect he will be one of the better playmakers in the league, but more importantly Diego fits our identity and his play should boost production to help the club win games.”
A native of Lanus Argentina also shows his applaud on taking a new move, He said, “I am very happy and this, for me, is a beautiful opportunity. I always wanted to play in MLS. I’m grateful that the Portland Timbers have given me this chance.” So, let’s congratulate to him!
